Preparing for the Nashville Marathon As A Runner and As An Innocent Bystander

As the rhythm of runners' footsteps fills the streets of Nashville, we extend a warm welcome to both locals and visitors alike. While the city buzzes with the excitement of the marathon, we understand that not everyone will be lacing up their sneakers for the race. Whether you're a resident going about your daily routine or a tourist exploring our vibrant city, the Nashville Marathon may impact your plans.

And whether you're aiming for a personal best or simply soaking in the electric atmosphere, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience. As you prepare to conquer the miles ahead, we've compiled some essential tips to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable race day.

For Runners Participating in the Nashville Marathon

Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or taking on this challenge for the first time, here are some tips to make your race day experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible:
  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Nashville can get warm in April. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water leading up to the race and during the event.
  2. Fuel Up Properly: Stick to foods you know your body can handle the night before and morning of the race. Opt for carbohydrates and lean proteins to give you that energy boost.
  3. Know the Route: Familiarize yourself with the course map and elevation changes. Nashville has some rolling hills, so pacing yourself is key.
  4. Don't Forget the SPF: Whether you're pounding the pavement in the Nashville Marathon or soaking up the city's sights, protecting your skin from the sun's rays is essential.
  5. Enjoy the Music: One of the best parts of the Nashville Marathon is the live music along the course! Let the tunes lift your spirits and carry you through those miles.
Remember, this is your race, and it's all about enjoying the journey! Best of luck to each and every one of you. See you at the finish line!

For Locals & Tourists Not Running the Nashville Marathon

If this is the first time you're hearing of the Nashville Marathon, we're glad to help you too!
  1. Plan Your Route Ahead of Time: Many roads downtown will be closed or have limited access on race day. Check the marathon website for road closure information and plan alternative routes if needed.
  2. Support the Runners: Marathon vibes are always electric and Nashville is particularly fun! If you're not running, why not join the cheering squad? Grab a spot along the route, and help cheer on the participants.
  3. Explore Local Businesses: With so many people in town for the marathon, it's a great opportunity to support local businesses. From coffee shops to boutiques, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
  4. Be Patient and Kind: With increased traffic and road closures, patience is key. Remember, everyone is here to enjoy the event, so let's make it a positive experience for all.
  5. Sleep In : Don't want to bother with any of it? Sleep in! Marathons are early anyway and you were probably out late!
Whether you're running or cheering from the sidelines, let's come together as a community to celebrate this incredible event and all the joy it brings to our beloved Music City.

Are you dreaming of a quick but unforgettable girls' getaway, but aren't sure where to start? I'm Cori, Chief of Staff at Beckon Homes, and I pulled together a 36-hour itinerary to maximize your stay in Music City. From cozy stays in Germantown to indulging in the city's finest pastries, tacos, and cocktails, I've curated the ultimate Nashville experience just for you. Let's dive right in!

Day 1: Arrival & Germantown Exploration

Check-In and Welcome
First things first, check into your cozy Beckon home in the heart of Germantown. Picture this: a stocked fridge and the best pastries in the city from Dozen Bakery (get the Kouign Amann, trust me.) awaiting your arrival. That's right – you've taken FULL advantage of Beckon's concierge services, and now it's time to unwind and enjoy!
Taco Time at Taco Mamacita's
After settling in, take a short walk down the block to Taco Mamacita's. Indulge in delicious tacos and sangria to kick off your Nashville adventure on a tasty note.
Girls' Night In at The Shelby
Back at your Beckon home, The Shelby awaits. This space has been lovingly designed by our team for connection, making it the perfect place to reconnect with friends. And guess what? You've booked in-home massages from our friend Megan at Native Massage through our custom app – because you deserve to be pampered! Rest and recharge after a long travel day and catch up with your girlfriends over a glass of wine.

Day 2: 12th South, Broadway, & Beyond

Morning Delights
Wake up to fresh pastries and coffee at your Beckon home. If you're craving a latte, send your early riser friend to Barista Parlor just a block away. While you're sipping coffee, get on Buttermilk Ranch's website and join their online waitlist. It gets crowded, but trust us, it is worth it.
Explore 12th South
Next, head to 12th South to explore local shops and eateries. Since you joined the online waitlist already you'll skip the line at Buttermilk Ranch and enjoy the best lunch of your life.
Broadway Adventures
After lunch, it's time to experience the good, the bad, and the ugly of Broadway in the light of day. Grab some touristy merch and enjoy a glass of wine at Sixty Vines overlooking the iconic Ryman Auditorium, the Mother Church of Country Music.
Evening Elegance
As evening approaches, head back to your Beckon home to decompress on the patio while the group gets ready for the evening. Later, walk a block down the street to my personal favorite restaurant, 5th and Taylor. Don't skip the sausage cheddar biscuits! After dinner, grab a drink at nearby Le Loup, which offers an unreal curation of specialty cocktails and mocktails.
Skyline Views and Late-Night Fun
Next, route your Uber to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on 2nd Avenue. Walk up the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge for the best view of the skyline and grab a group photo you'll cherish forever. Then, head back down to Lower Broad, popping in and out of bars to find your group's favorite. Pro tip: Honky Tonk Central and Whiskey Row close at 3 am!
Bedtime
Finally, head home to your cozy, quiet Beckon home in Germantown where you can rest easy, knowing you've booked a late checkout.

Day 3: Brunch & Departure

Brunch at Butchertown Hall
In the morning, get some fresh air and walk 5 minutes to Butchertown Hall for brunch before you all head out of town after a successful, rejuvenating trip to Nashville.
